With an indelible feminist perspective, I explore a sense of physical and territorial vulnerability. I draw connections between the violent exploitation of natural environments and the female body by our capitalist and patriarchal society. Born in the “Company Town” of Noranda, constantly subjected to the influence of the Horne Smelter, I illustrate my relationship with the forced acceptance of this domination of my body by the disembodied entity that is Glencore. I recontextualize photographs, mostly from my early childhood, to create works that reflect the emotions of anger and powerlessness that dwell within me. Exposed to these toxic emissions, my body and this territory thus endure in this reality that has become commonplace. Sacrificed, suffocated, violated.

Avec un angle féministe indélébile, j’explore un sentiment de vulnérabilité corporelle et territoriale. Je crée des liens entre la violente exploitation des environnements naturels et du corps de la femme par notre société capitaliste et patriarcale. Née dans la ‘Company Town’ de Noranda, sans cesse soumise à l’influence de la Fonderie Horne, j’illustre mon rapport avec l’acceptation forcée de cette domination de mon corps par cette entité désincarnée qu’est Glencore. Je recontextualise des photographies provenant majoritairement de ma petite enfance pour créer des œuvres reflétant ces émotions de colère et d’impuissance qui m’habitent. Exposés à ces émissions toxiques, mon corps comme ce territoire subsistent donc dans cette réalité devenue banale. Sacrifiés, étouffés, violés.
